Connally, O’ Connally, O’ Connolly, Ó Conghaile.

The Connolly name originated in the province of Connacht in the west, and also in Co. Monaghan in the north, but has since been widely dispersed throughout the country. The name comes from the Gaelic “conghaile”, which means ‘valorous’. Today, Connolly is the 23rd most numerous name in Ireland, being most common in the province of Ulster.

The hand knit Connolly sweater has an unusual braided cable centre panel, flanked by honeycomb rope, cable, plait and moss stitches on either side. The cable stitch represents good luck, honeycomb symbolises work, and moss is symbolic of nature. This beautiful Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinín (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a clan history and crest. It is made of 100% merino wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and, with care, will last a lifetime.
