Mallon, Ó Maoileoin.

Malone is the Anglicisation of the Gaelic Ó Maoileoin, from ‘Maol’ meaning ‘bald’, in reference to Irish monks, and the personal name Eoin, together giving the meaning of ‘a descendant of a follower of (St.) John’. The clan originated in Co. Offaly, and had established connections with the Abbey of Clonmacnoise, who had a number of Malone abbots and bishops. The name has now spread from its original homeland, and is popular in counties Clare and Wexford.

The hand knit Malone sweater has a central panel of moss filled zig zag stitches. Flanked by cables and braid on either side. This beautiful Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinín (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and, with care, will last a lifetime.
