Murtagh, O' Moriarty, O' Muircheartaigh.

Moriarty is the English version of the Irish O Muircheartaigh, made up of muir, ‘sea’ and ceardach, ‘skilled’ therefore ‘one skilled in the ways of the sea’. This name has always been associated with Co. Kerry. Their original territory lay on both sides of Castlemaine Harbour. Nowadays over 80% of Moriarty births are registered in County Kerry.

The hand knit Moriarty sweater has a central honeycomb panel with columns of moss filled diamonds and honeycomb panels on either side. The honeycomb stitch represents work. Moss stitch symbolises nature, and the diamond stitch represents a wish for wealth. This beautiful hand knitted Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinin (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a Clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and with care, will last a lifetime.
