Dwyer is the Anglicisation of the Gaelic Ó Duibhir or Ó Dubhuidhir, from “Dubh” meaning dark, and “odhar”, meaning sallow. The clan originated in County Tipperary, where they were a strong force of resistance against the English. The name is most popular in this area, and also counties Limerick, Cork and Kilkenny. One of the most famous Dwyers was Michael Dwyer who took place in the 1798 Rising against the English.

The hand knit Dwyer sweater has a moss filled diamond central panel flanked by cable and honeycomb stitches. The diamonds represent a wish for wealth. The Moss stitch is symbolic of nature and the honeycomb symbolises work. This beautiful Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinín (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and, with care, will last a lifetime.
