Statistics show that the name O’ Flaherty is still most numerous and common in their original habitat in County Galway, than elsewhere in Ireland. The same name is found in Ulster, but there the initial F is silent producing the name O’ Laverty and O’ Laherty. The name comes from flaitheamh meaning ‘prince’ or ‘ruler’ and beartach meaning ‘acting’ or ‘behaving’. One translation of these phrases is ‘hospitable’ or ‘generous’.

The hand knit O’ Flaherty sweater has a central panel of moss filled diamonds. This is flanked on either side by cables. The diamonds represent a wish for wealth and the cables symbolise good luck. This beautiful hand knitted Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinin (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a Clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and with care, will last a lifetime.
