The name O’ Malley is one of the few names from which the prefix O has not been dropped. It is not a very numerous name but is very well known. It has always been almost exclusively associated with County Mayo. The O’ Malleys were always famous for their prowess at sea. The most famous of these being Grace O’ Malley or Graine Mhaol.


The hand knit O’ Malley sweater incorporated honeycomb, cable and moss stitches. The honeycomb represents work. The cable symbolises a wish for good luck and the moss stitch represents nature. This beautiful hand knitted Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinin (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool.
